Studying Plant Physiology
The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (MPI-MP) is a well-known German research institute in Potsdam, Brandenburg. With 360 employees, the institute investigates fundamental processes of plant physiology and development and the interaction of plants with their environment. It is one of the 80 institutes that make up the Max Planck Society.
In Search of an Admin Documentation Tool
In 2020, the institute's tech division needed an internal IT documentation system that met these criteria:
- Customizable layout and design.
- Access to the frontend website and editor should be limited to authenticated users within the organization.
- Writing docs should be fun.
Andreas Donath from the IT Service at MPI-MP explains why they chose Typemill as their admin documentation solution:
"If you want your team to write documentation, you must make the process as easy and intuitive as possible. Typemill works well in this regard. The authentication features of Typemill were also a key factor in our decision, as common solutions like static site generators do not offer this functionality out of the box."
A Living Documentation with Frequent Updates
MPI-MP has successfully implemented Typemill as the documentation system for its IT department. The documentation is a living document, regularly updated and widely accepted within the department. Following the successful implementation of Typemill in IT, a scientific group at MPI-MP has started testing Typemill for documenting laboratory workflows.
