Start with eBooks
The ebook plugin turns your Typemill site into an eBook publishing system, allowing you to generate PDF and EPUB publications from selected pages or an entire website. This is a distinctive feature of Typemill, combining a flat-file CMS with a structured publishing pipeline for books.
The feature supports two workflows: system-wide ebook projects for full-site publications, and page-based ebooks for focused collections from specific sections. Each ebook can be structured with layouts, metadata, and dedicated sections such as cover, imprint, dedication, and table of contents.
Install ebook plugin
To create ebooks, install the ebook plugin first. Download it from the Typemill Plugin Directory, unzip it, and upload it to the plugins directory on your server. Activate it in the Typemill admin interface under system plugins.
Configure ebook feature
After installation, enable ebooks in the system settings. This adds a dedicated ebook area in the backend and an ebook tab inside the content editor for page-level ebook configuration.
Create ebook projects
An ebook project defines what content is included and how it is structured. You can select a layout, choose pages or sections, and configure elements such as cover page, imprint, dedication, and table of contents.
Headings are automatically transformed into a structured hierarchy used for navigation and export.
Preview and export ebooks
Each ebook can be previewed as HTML before export. Final output can be generated as:
- PDF, using either the local browser print system or a server-based PDF renderer (WeasyPrint)
- EPUB, for use on e-readers and digital publishing platforms
