Typemill 2.20.1: Auto Translation
Typemill version 2.20.1 has arrived with automated translations that make multilingual websites significantly easier to manage. Download the latest version of Typemill from the start page.
Automated Translation Workflow
Since version 2.20.0, creating multilingual websites became possible through the project feature. In the new language tab, you can copy pages to different language projects with a single click, then manually translate the content or use the Kixote AI interface to translate articles with custom prompts.
Version 2.20.1 introduces an option to fully automate this translation process. Simply enable the "AI auto-translation" checkbox in the project tab of your system settings. Whenever you create a new translation page, both the complete article and metadata will be automatically translated. Just ensure you've activated the AI service in the AI tab of your system settings.
This update makes Typemill significantly more practical for anyone managing multilingual content. The time savings are substantial, and the workflow integrates seamlessly within the existing project structure. However, auto-translation currently only applies when you initially create a translation page. I still need to implement a feature that translates changes made to original pages.
Bug Fixes
While the projects feature opens up many new possibilities, it also creates some side effects on Typemill's core functionality that I'm addressing step by step. Most importantly, following user reports, I've resolved the annoying behavior affecting posts. When you changed the manual date of posts, it appeared as though the metadata and content of other posts were being overwritten. This was actually just an error with the cached navigation structure, which I've now fixed, so you can safely work with posts again without experiencing strange effects on other posts.
You can also properly clear the navigation in Kixote again; it will now clear the navigation for both the base folder and all projects. I've also applied the project logic to the API endpoints and will test the entire API within a project scenario over the next few days. Finally, the button to open articles in the Kixote AI editor now works correctly for projects.
