Support Typemill: The CMS Awards

If you’d like to help promote Typemill, there’s a fantastic opportunity with the upcoming CMS Critics Awards. Pilot - Knowledge Bases Made Simple

Pilot is a lightweight, flexible theme designed to turn Typemill into a self-hosted knowledge base for small enterprises. It’s the first Typemill theme to feature a fully responsive flyout navigation in the header. The standout feature of the Pilot theme is its ability to create meaningful color schemes for stage headers, which can be configured individually for each page. You can further enhance the design by incorporating images for specific article types and displaying breadcrumbs, author names, and publication dates. This allows you to create a visually distinctive knowledge base that helps users easily differentiate between topics and areas. Pilot requires a MAKER license. Read all about Pilot, explore the demo installation, or download the Knowledge Base Bundle, which includes the Pilot theme.

Improved Guide Theme

Guide is now the most popular theme for Typemill, and with version 2.1.0, it offers even more options. You can now center the design and choose a background color. For folders, you can optionally add a sub-navigation below the content. Last but not least, you can set dark mode or light mode as the default when users first visit the page. Two new readymade layouts demonstrate the updated layout options.

Improved Responsive Author Interface

Core improvements in Typemill Version 2.13.0 include an enhanced responsive design for the author interface. All pages and elements now display correctly in mobile view. However, both the content navigation and the block editor still lack support for touch events. This will be addressed and completed in the next release.

Playbooks with Typemill

I recently came across the concept of playbooks. Playbooks are actionable guides to achieve specific goals, and they’ve become very popular in recent years. With its ability to generate both websites and eBooks, Typemill is an excellent solution for playbooks of all kinds. I wrote about the playbook use case and brainstormed ideas for a series of playbooks. This also helps to promote Typemill for a variety of use cases.

What's Next?

After crafting several new plugins and themes, the next release of Typemill will focus on core improvements, such as the responsive author interface and the API mode. Regarding WeasyPrint, I’ve decided to incorporate the remote print service into a larger remote service for Kixote. Kixote was introduced last summer, and I now plan to expand it with remote KI services. This will be a larger project, but I hope to launch some initial experiments in the second quarter of 2025. Exciting times are ahead!
